Barry Ryerson started quite late to study music, having his first piano lessons when he was 15 years old. However, his gift for music became apparent as within 7 months he achieved Grade 5 piano.
Since then, and aside from learning instruments as diverse as saxophone and viola to tibetan flutes and japanese Taiko drums, Barry has achieved an Upper Second class BA(Hons) in Music at Southampton University, as well as a post-graduate diploma in Composition. A qualified Music and Drama teacher at secondary school level, he currently teaches Music Technology part-time at Deep Blue Sound, Plymouth, and at Sherborne School, Dorset.
A keen interest in all forms of music has helped make Barry's compositions range in style from lush orchestral scores to electronica and dance. He is also a regular performer in Kagemusha Taiko, and has played taiko with the late Daihachi Oguchi, as well as alongside Joji Hirota and Hana Yui. Outside of music, Barry has also received his first dan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, and has a keen interest in both Japanese and Dutch languages.
